How To Determine If So Called Raw Almonds Truly Are Raw – Are You A Victim?

Have you heard about the law passed in California that forces companies that grow almonds in California to pasteurize them, and allows them to label those pasteurized almonds as “raw?” Most people blindly trust whatever the label says, and are therefore paying higher prices for almonds that are not truly raw. Are you a victim? This short guide will help you determine if the almonds you purchase are truly raw or if they have actually been pasteurized and tampered with.

Are you buying from a major grocery store chain? With some exceptions, most major grocery stores sell almonds that have been pasteurized and/or roasted, even if the almonds are labeled as “raw.” Why? You’ll find out soon, and the answer may disturb you!

Are the almonds you buy grown in California? If so, they are almost certainly not raw, despite what the label says. This may not be true in all cases, but most of the time it is. The reason is that California has a law that allows pasteurized almonds to be labeled as raw, even though they technically aren’t “raw.” Not only that, but they also require that all almonds grown in California must be pasteurized.

The Best Pork Belly Roast

This classic with soft tender meat and delicious crisp crackling is the perfect dish to start with. Served simply with mash, roast potato or fries and some fresh greens, this is one recipe you’ll be sure to come back to time and time again.

Ingredients

1.5kg pork belly
2 red onions
2 carrots
2 sticks of celery
1 whole bulb of garlic (leave the skin on, but break the bulb into cloves)
sprig of fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
600ml chicken stock
salt and pepper

Method

Preheat oven to its highest setting, or at least 220°C/425°F/gas 7.

Score the skin through into the fat, but not as deep as the meat. You want the skin scored all over approx 1cm apart. Tip: your butcher will do this for you if you ask. Otherwise, use a small but very sharp knife!

Now rub salt into all the scores, turn the meat over and also season the underneath and sides with both salt and pepper. Now place the pork, skin side up, into a roasting dish and put it into the hot oven.
